WINTERWINE 2010
Sakonnet Vineyards has pioneered the production of fine wines in New England for thirty-five years. All of our estate wines reflect the favorable maritime climate found along Rhode Island’s beautiful coast.
Our ice wine is made from the estate's ripest Vidal Blanc, harvested after the first frost in mid-November. Its golden color is characteristic of fine dessert wines throughout the world. Pronounced aromas of apricot, peach and honey are followed by similar flavors in this full bodied wine. The hallmark of a great dessert wine is a high degree of acidity, which prevents the wine from being cloying or syrupy. This tartness is present throughout the long, honeyed finish.
Rich cheeses are a perfect match for the Winterwine, including double Gloucester, epoisses, gorgonzola, port salut, mascarpone, Roquefort and teleme. Other wonderful pairings are foie gras, crème brulee, baked apple,
custard, citrus fruit desserts, butter cake, bread pudding, coconut cream pie, bananas foster, baklava and dark and tropical flavored chocolate. Nuts such as almonds, pecan and walnuts are also appropriate.
