FUME VIDAL 2010
Sakonnet Vineyards has pioneered the production of fine wines in Southern New England for thirty-five years. All of our estate wines reflect the favorable maritime climate found along Rhode Island’s beautiful coast.
Vidal Blanc is Sakonnet Estate’s signature grape, a French hybrid able to withstand far colder conditions than we experience in Rhode Island. In addition to being hardy, it is disease resistant and can produce generous yields per ton. One of the hallmarks of the grape is its versatility, as it can be made into dry, semi-dry or dessert style wines and may be aged in either stainless steel or oak barrels.
This version of Vidal Blanc is fermented and aged in older French oak, which results in a medium-bodied wine with a noticeably richer texture than our stainless steel release of Vidal. It has a straw color, with aromas of baked apples and toast. It is fermented dry with medium acidity and no tannins, due to the gentle effect of the older oak. White grapefruit and lime flavors balance the toast and remain throughout the finish.
Asiago, emmentaler, jarlsberg and swiss cheeses complement the wine. Smoked mussels, oysters, soufflé, guacamole and pasta with pesto sauce are excellent pairings as well.
