PETITE RED
Sakonnet Vineyards has pioneered the production of fine wines in Southern New England for thirty-five years. All of our estate wines reflect the favorable maritime climate found along Rhode Island’s beautiful coast. This medium-bodied blend has a crimson color with prominent earthy aromas, of black currants and blackberry, more typical of an old-world wine. The low acidity balances the smooth tannins, which are the result of older French oak aging. The Chancellor and Cabernet Franc lend spice and pepper to the wine, while the Cabernet Sauvignon brings tobacco to the palate. Although the Pinot Noir is a small percent of the final blend, it contributes significant berry flavors. The medium finish exhibits lingering tannins with traces of the dark fruit. This wine is well suited to blue cheese, as well as aged cheddar, gruyere and parmesan. The earthy character matches savory meats, such as venison, roast rack of lamb, steak or beef stew. Smoked or grilled seafood, along with carmelized onions are also complimented by the dark fruits. Suggested seasonings are tomato, bay leaf, mustard, peppercorn, sage and olives.
