35th ANNIVERSARY CLARET
Sakonnet Vineyards has pioneered the production of fine wines in Southern New England for thirty-five years. All of our estate wines reflect the favorable maritime climate found along Rhode Island’s beautiful coast.
Since 1975 we have celebrated every five years with a classic Bordeaux blend of our finest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This 35th Anniversary wine was made from the 2007 vintage, which was exceptional for our red grapes.
This is a very limited production wine. It is garnet in color with a subtle pepper aroma. The Claret has medium acidity and smooth tannins. The wine is full bodied with flavors of black cherries, blackcurrant, tea and licorice. The ripe
fruits and tannins linger on the substantially long finish. Although ready to drink now, it is certainly capable of cellaring for at least three to five years.
Brie, camembert, cheddar, colby, dry jack, gruyere and provolone cheeses are suitable companions. Grilled poultry, pork tenderloin, herb crusted meat, steak, duck, goose and venison will compliment this hearty wine. Side dishes would include black beans, carmelized onions, and grilled vegetables. Appropriate seasonings are balsamic vinegar, dill & mustard, chives, sage, mint, rosemary, orange zest and fennel.
